Select from maple, red oak, white oak, cherry, walnut, hickory, or pine. Each species carries a distinct grain character and aging story.
Stain & Finish
Choose from 30+ stain colours — from Natural Maple to Dark Espresso — or bring in a floor or fabric sample for a custom colour match.
Dimensions
Tables can be lengthened, widened, or raised. Beds can be adjusted for higher headboards or lower profiles. Your space, your spec.
Hardware & Details
Select leg profiles, edge treatments, drawer pulls, and joinery styles. Every detail is decided before the first board is cut.

Choose Your Specifications
Select your wood species from our in-store samples, choose your stain from our colour board, and set your dimensions. We take detailed measurements and produce a written spec sheet for your approval.
Crafted in Ontario
Your piece is built by our network of Mennonite craftspeople in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. No overseas production. Build time is typically 8–12 weeks for fully custom pieces.
Delivery or Pickup
We deliver across Southern Ontario and offer in-store pickup at all four locations. White-glove delivery includes assembly and placement in your room.
The Material
Why We Only Build with Solid Wood
Every custom Penwood piece is built from solid, full-thickness hardwood — no veneers, no MDF cores, no shortcuts. We work exclusively with solid Canadian hardwood species: maple, red oak, white oak, cherry, walnut, hickory, and pine.
The reason is simple: solid wood is the only material that improves with time. A maple dining table develops a rich patina over decades of family meals. A walnut dresser grows more beautiful every year. And when the finish eventually shows its age, solid wood can be fully sanded and refinished — something impossible with engineered wood products.
Our craftspeople use traditional joinery — mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, and box joints — alongside modern pocket screws and dowels where appropriate. The result is furniture with structural integrity that outlasts fashion trends by generations. Common Questions About Custom Orders
How long does a custom piece take to build?
Fully custom pieces typically take 8–12 weeks from the time the order is confirmed. Rush options are available for some items — ask our showroom team. Ready-to-order pieces from our standard collection are often available in 4–6 weeks.
Can I provide my own dimensions?
Absolutely. Most custom orders start with the client's measurements. Our team will confirm structural feasibility and suggest any modifications to ensure the piece is strong and proportional.
Do you offer custom colour matching for stains?
Yes. Bring a flooring sample, fabric swatch, or existing furniture piece to any of our four showrooms and our team will work with you to identify or mix the closest matching stain. See our full stain palette on the stains and finishes page.
Is there a deposit required?
Custom orders require a 50% deposit at the time of order, with the balance due before delivery. We accept major credit cards, e-transfer, and cash.
Do you deliver across Ontario?
Yes. We deliver to all of Southern Ontario and offer white-glove delivery for larger pieces. Delivery fees vary by location. Free in-store pickup is available at all four showrooms.
