Penwood's Ancaster showroom sits at 1242 Garner Rd W, just off Highway 403 in the west Hamilton area. It's a working showroom: full dining sets, bedroom dressers and beds, hutches, home office pieces and living room storage, all built in solid hardwood by Mennonite craftspeople in southern Ontario.
Ancaster holds a 4.7-star rating on Google. That rating holds because the furniture holds. A lot of the reviews mention a piece that looks the same a decade after delivery as it did the week it arrived.
Custom-Built, Not Stocked
Every piece on the floor is custom-built, and so is everything you order. You spec the wood species, dimensions, finish and hardware, and it’s built to it. No particle board, no veneers, no shortcuts.
Woods: cherry, oak, walnut and maple, kiln-dried and sourced locally. Finishes: 30+ hand-applied stains. A six-seat cherry table in a walnut stain and the same table in maple with a natural finish are two different pieces, and both are built to last for generations.
Lead time is 8 to 12 weeks from order confirmation.
What's on the Floor
Samples across every main category: dining tables and chairs, dressers, hutches, beds, media units and desks. You can compare wood species and finishes side by side, which tells you more in five minutes than a week of browsing online.
The Ancaster staff field a lot of questions about how wood behaves over time. Cherry darkens with age. Maple keeps a lighter tone longer. If you’re choosing between them for a table that’ll see daily use, ask before you order.

Penwood's 20+ master builders work in Mennonite woodworking communities across the region. Hand tools, kiln-dried hardwood, no shortcuts on joinery. Same approach since 1993.
